Dear diary

Diary

Okay, so this is my diary. I get to decide what goes in it. So many of us are squeezed into a mould of what we're supposed to look like online. I'd rather just tell you what my month actually looked like. Here's 2026 so far.

October 2026

Secrets, Copenhagen and a website!

Our paper "The Secret Keeper" was published in the ACM Digital Library, in the NordiCHI '26 Adjunct proceedings. In Copenhagen I facilitated the Forum of the Future panel sessions, and what a room it was! And this website went live! You're reading it right now. Hi!

September 2026

Ghent, Nice and a defence to remember

I went to ECAF, the European Conference on Algorithmic Fairness, in Ghent, where I co-organised a workshop. Then off to ACM womENcourage in Nice, where I jumped into a hackathon! It ran from September into early October. I also witnessed a magnificent PhD defence by the outstanding Mafalda Gamboa. Honestly, it was one of a kind. And I went to the virtual launch of The Qual African! So happy to see it out in the world.

August 2026

My Fellow Hour

I gave my own ICDE Fellow Hour talk. I loved getting to share my work with everyone.

July 2026

Solidarity and rollercoasters

My essay Mapping the Solidarity Stack was published! Then I went to an amusement park with my family and one of my besties. What a day!

June 2026

June 2026: Katya to the rescue

My poster made it to the Gender and AI Symposium in Dublin, even though I couldn't. My friend Katya presented it for me. Thank you, Katya!

May 2026

London, Mila and Pisa!

I spoke on the "AI at the Crossroads" panel at the IWF Cornerstone Conference in London. It was sold out, with 750 registrations. No pressure then! I also gave a talk on accountability to Mila's FATE & Society reading group. Then I went to Pisa for my girl's PhD graduation!!!

March 2026

Fellowship time

The ICDE Fellowship launched and I'm officially in! I also joined the Platform Coops Open Research Forum. What a month!

February 2026

Words, words, words

I wrote a piece for The Conversation and I'm so proud of it. I also contributed to a book, The Qual African! And I found out I'd been accepted to the ICDE Fellowship. Happy dance.

January 2026

The month my phone wouldn't stop ringing

My research on Grok went viral! I mean properly viral. Almost every journalist I can think of was calling me. What a start to the year!
